This is important before and after your massage. Before it is important to aid the muscles ready for manipulation and toxin release. After it is important to help flush those toxins away.
You will be laying on your stomach for a period of time, if you eat to heavily before hand this can become uncomfortable, and can increase the risk of indigestion.
During a massage there is an increased chance of flatulence when you are at your most relaxed, but please bear this in mind when choosing your meals!!
Equally you don't want an empty stomach either, there is nothing more distraction when you're trying to relax and your stomach is rumbling!
Most massages require you to remove articles of clothing. Keep this in mind as you want them to come off easily, and put back on easily too.
This gives you time to discuss with the therapist any areas you want particular attention too, or to avoid. You will have received a consultation form prior to the appointment, so please do make sure that this is completed otherwise you will need to complete before your treatment has started, and this will eat into your appointment time.
Water is incredibly important - however especially after massage, this is to aid flushing the toxins away that have been released during massage.
It is important that for at least 2 hours after your massage, you avoid placing toxins into the body, after they have already been released.
These include but are not limited to:
It is important to relax after your massage, and reap the benefits of that relaxation and down time.
For a few hours after your appointment you can be more at risk of becoming dizzy. To avoid this please refrain from:
We want you to feel relaxed after your massage, this can make you drowsy. We will have also used oils on the skin, which will increase the chance of burning and skin sensitivity.
Please refrain from sunbathing or using sunbeds for a few hours after your massage, and even more importantly once you have washed the oils from your skin. It is best recommended that you do not sunbathe or use sunbeds, until the day after your massage.
It is normal to feel a little sore after a massage, especially if you have a particular area of soreness worked on.
Please be aware of these areas, and if discomfort increases please do get in touch with your therapist if needed.
A massage is an investment in yourself, and one of the ways to capitalise on that is to stay relaxed. Don't rush back to normal life. Put on some calming music, madidate, or get back into that book you have been meaning to catch up on.
Whilst most of the after care following a massage is to stay relaxed, it is important to keep the blood flow to the muscles.
If you are back to work do some gentle stretches, and remember screen breaks.
Move around, go for a nice walk (if it is sunny remember your SPF and hat), hold any stretches for 30 secs to ensure their efficiency.
The best way to hold on to that post massage bliss, is to know that your next one is already in the diary!

Brilliant massage, thank you 😊
I was treated to a lovely 45 mins massage with Steph for my birthday and I honestly didn’t want it to end..! Steph’s got a great home set-up, lovely spacious treatment room, calming ambience and even a heated massage bed! I do hold a lot of stress in my shoulders so Steph kindly concentrated on getting the knots out, as well as giving me a fab back massage. I almost fell asleep, it was so lovely and I felt so good afterwards! Thank you so much, Steph, I will definitely be back! Xx
